What is Venture?

Venture School is a fully accredited comprehensive school for students in grades K-12. We are an alternative education school which means that we are able to serve students whose needs may be best met through study outside of a traditional school setting through either independent study (serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade) or continuation education (student age 16-18 years old).

Independent Study

Our public school provides independent study students with access to a standards aligned education using the SRVUSD approved curriculum that is supervised by a credentialed teacher at a weekly meeting. During the weekly meeting the Venture teacher will review and evaluate the student’s progress over the prior week and provide the student with lessons that will  support and guide continued learning in the coming week. Teachers at Venture are able to adapt lessons to meet student needs.

For students in elementary grades, it is important that they work daily with an adult (typically a parent or guardian) who will guide and support student engagement in the assigned learning activities and monitor student work. At the weekly meeting the Venture teacher meets with both the adult and student. As students mature and are able to take on more responsibility for their studies, the parent's role changes. By high school students typically meet with the teacher on their own.

To ensure the success of our students we expect the student to work daily on their studies. Students should expect to spend approximately five hours per week in study for each course they take. Courses at Venture are offered in a variety of formats to meet the learning needs of our students. Most students take courses through independent study. We also offer blended learning courses where students spend up to two hours per week in a group lesson led by a teacher, that is designed to support their independent learning.

All students attend Venture by choice. The flexibility of the Venture schedule helps students to pursue personal interests outside the classroom, and also meet the educational requirements of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Our students learn time management skills and practice the self discipline that will be necessary for future success in all areas of life.

Continuation Education

Continuation education is an alternative high school diploma program. It is for students who are sixteen to eighteen years of age who have not graduated from high school, are still required to attend school, and who are at risk of not graduating. Typically the students in continuation education are behind in high school credits. Our continuation students must attend school daily, five days a week, from 9 am to 12:02 pm. The program is designed so that students will be able to complete the courses that are required for graduation with a continuation high school diploma. Our program includes guidance and career counseling. Students in the continuation program are able to take additional classes through independent study and concurrent enrollment in community college.
